drumma records presents its second collaboration with romanian duo vinyl speed adjust (vsa). the ep titled the awakening shows us vsas intelligent approach to music, an ideal fit at drumma records where creatively effervescent music is embraced with open arms. the record has 4 tracks. the eponymous the awakening is a special trip between break rhythms, modern jazz and a dreamy perpetual arpeggio. it creates a great mood for artists who want to present something special during their set. a2 is the grind, a very strong and acid track with a powerful evolving bassline that creates perfect suspense. inspired by the 90s, its raw and its analogue, definitely a hot track. monoxide comes with a linear rhythmic pattern and a very deep sub-bass sound fused with trippy synth soundscapes, ideal to put in a mental note during a session. the release is topped off with an amazing remix by the great valentino kanzyani. hes brought his own approach to the grind. the remix is a track with very strong groove and an intelligent evolution that creates small sonic worlds at every turn. valentino knows how to masterfully work a constant crescendo where tension and rest is perfectly resolved and we can feel his approach to techno at its best.

helsinkis lauri saine is the storyteller for this, the third chapter of fools & fables. pleasingly his irresistible releases dont come along all that often, but when they do, they justifiably make serious waves. small remedies, takes us on a journey to a side of saine we seldom see. first things first, blush cuts a breezy, cheerful path through a warm analogue space, with the mid-tempo throb of sampled rhythms to keep you from drifting too far off course. casual wears altogether looser pants as we just bob to and fro in a hammock while rum-soaked session players jam away in a distant speakeasy. the tropical breeze blows free through leisure song too, as we begin to get the impression finland might actually be a small pacific island.

lab.our 06 features offbeat, dancefloor techno from hermans. hermans (jerry riggs dick diamonds & maxwell church) already have releases out on labels such as run out run, klasse recordings, zodiac44 & extended play, among others. a1 is sweat box rock, an epic stormer that sounds like a techno jam session with alternating beat patterns and dirty keys. b1, dustin tombtones, is an uptempo acid workout destined to move dancefloors. b2 is a remix of sweat box rock by lab.our music bosses basic soul unit and j-ul.

for it’s 16th (!!!) release, dixon avenue basement jams continues to bolster it’s local infantry with fresh, new blood, this time with the addition of a young but well-seasoned individual hailing from the hinterland of greater glasgow and going by the name of big miz. if you happen to live within an 8 mile radius of a blue lagoon, the chances are you will have already been acquainted with the bold miz, most likely through the longstanding and legendary clubnight/crew he’s a resident & founding member of: offbeat. the length & breadth of offbeat’s tastes also reflects his flexibility as a producer. tracks presented here, such as “good thing” strike a fine balance between good ol’ motor city funk and chi-town oddities such as vincent floyd’s more obscure cuts on d.m, while the velocity increasing “solange” comes like the result of a three-day theo studio session fuelled by bad speed. his talent for catering to the dance has clearly paid dividends when it comes to his productions, with the nuance and instinctive touch he presents us with on his debut dabj 12” clearly marking him from the start line as an already formidable & stand-out force in the heady and increasingly cramped world of house & techno.

throw is the 1st track here, which manages to loop a refrain and bass that candy staton anthem, all the while sounding like a forgotten moodymann mpc jam. vocals, skipping snares, a bouncing tambourine & one of the finest bassline ever written (by someone else) compell you to dance. need your love is a heads down sample house jam. it’s looping vocal, super tight drums, woozy chord stabs and sirens make it feel like the result of a studio session between a 90’s dubbed out louie vega & man-like switch (before he went feral).

in this most recent phase, the intercontinental duo progress into new territory on four tracks that dwell in minimalism. atmospheric white noise and resonant synthesizer sequences combine together with spatial awareness and repetitions that build structures progressively. primal, slow and pulsing sounds give way to dynamic peaks. these tracks were recorded in the same session as the recent “el temps no passa” release on the philadelphia imprint white denim making it a perfect follow-up.

kicking things off on the a side is herbie s jam , an effortlessly cool house edit of the legendary jazz pioneer that features an infectious piano loop, live drums and a funky bassline which we re sure is going to become a staple at day time parties and sunset sets this summer. there s also an incredibly smooth and soulful trumpet sample to complete the jam and tie everything together. on the flip you ll find a more up beat and peak time affair called oliver that keeps the same jam session vibe as on the a side, but this time employs sultry organ keys, breezy guitar licks, and a truly groovy saxophone contribution that makes you just want to get up and move. just as with their previous releases, this is a hand stamped, limited, 12- that won t be around for long.

after waiting 3 long years, and finally getting the multi track session to do a b side, im proud to present the star blazers cover version of the masterpiece danger zone which was originally done my midnight express. many should be familiar with detroit producer recloose, while back in new zealand he assembled a band who called them selves star blazers (an ode to the 70s legendary japanimation series and a big hit on bostons tv38.. indeed recloose is from massachusetts) and they recorded a few cover tunes.upon hearing this i knew it was special. while most modern covers miss the mark, purely emulating and sounding like a cheap imitation, leaving me wanting to just play the original. they flip the tempo, swing and vibe, straight up owning this and making it their own.

founded in september 1981 in orléans, and originally dedicated to a kind of ‘modern punk rock’, d.stop released a first 7’’ the following year. this impossible-to-find debut release is now reissued on vinyl for the first time. the three tracks of the original 7’’ are augmented with 4 tracks that are released on vinyl for the first time ever on this very nice translucent vinyl 10’’ plus download code. after this first 7”, sonny brailleur (vocals) + phil lethon (guitar/bass) + klod lelook (organ, synths, drum-machines) , inspired by french band metal urbain, stylistically transformed into a more ‘synth punk’ kind of outfit and released their first mini-album nouvelles du front in september 1983 that has been reissued by desire on vinyl last september. one year after, the band already ceased to exist – or actually changed the name to les visiteurs du soir – to turn back to the old name in 1985 by releasing a limited cassette. despite the very few releases by this gifted act, d.stop are considered to be one of the most interesting and under-rated cult acts in french cold wave.

the fourth release from palms & charms sees the return of label co-owner barnaby bruce, ruminating on the perils of fine fabric care. we ve all been there – a lengthy session on the dancefloor playing havoc with the pile of your velvet coat. faced with this dilemma, barnaby reaches for the battered volume, passed down through untold generations of his family, detailing archaic yet uncannily effective methods for extending the life of even the most exquisite textiles. as he does so, the percussive jazz-tinged boogie of sweat on velvet takes over his mind, unleashing a wave of dancefloor euphoria. not to be outdone, pete herbert (reverso 68), unveils his own masterful fabric care techniques, providing a remix that will starch your collar and shake out the creases. not the same clothes, but something brand new. freshly attired, barnaby begins to notice curious and somewhat unsettling noises coming from the next room. he gingerly opens the door, and is confronted with a seance in full swing. strangers sitting around his dining table wait with baited breath for word from the other side. but the unearthly howling of tortured spirits is quickly silenced by the devilish groove of seance fiction. as the arp makes its entrance, every soul is up and dancing. finally, barnaby bruce also provides the eminently useful go go percussion dub of sweat on velvet – rounding out a sartorially elegant ep with something for everyone, from sceptics to lost souls.

as spring dawns, rhythm section international go from local artist to a pair of very * local* artists - peckham’s very own chris watson + chris coupe, otherwise known as fyi chris , who present the ‘back in the millennium’ ep as the labels 5th offering. the ep was born after a rather hazy late night listening session at rhythm section hq, where bossman bradley zero was instantly beguiled by the duos hypnotic and rhythmically complex arrangements. the record begins abrasively with the trance-inducing mechanical stutter of back in the millennium , before shuffling into downbeat number * jeru* and then picks things up with the peak time groove of * need i say more* before bringing us back down to earth with the melancholic acid bump of * dedication*. early support from osunlade, mr.g, ryan elliott & damiano von eckhert. ready for club use.

las modelos is a collaboration between the voodoo down label heads (l’estasi dell’oro, 12x12, n’conduit) and october, collectively conceived and tracked over the course of an all-night recording session in the winter of 2014 in the studio home of voodoo down records. the b side is a dub remix done by october, stripping the original track down to its roots. recorded at fyybj studios, brooklyn. additional mixing at smith street studios, brooklyn. mastered by tim xavier at manmade mastering, berlin. limited to 300 copies, vinyl only.

after the last lessizmore release found san proper and maayan nidam crossing swords for the simmering, jammed-out tones of it was a night like this, now the label turns to another close ally for a slice of discerning, upfront house music. louis mcguire lives many different lives in music, from drumming with indie pop outfit ballet school to playing bass for lo-fi electronica group the waves & us. now though his own solo productions are being noticed in the house and techno world, with this new ep following on from a well-received debut on supply records. the diversity of mcguire’s musical leanings feeds into his distinctive sound, as his own take on stripped down, sensual house music bristles with unconventional energy to make for an unforgettable experience that steps up to the most creative frontiers of dance music. live drum sounds rattle around the mix free from quantized safety, while the melodic tones come on warm and fuzzy, capturing the hazy romance of a late morning session as much as the early part of the evening. it’s apparent that mcguire’s weapon of choice is the mpc, channeling his love of gritty beats in the grand tradition of point g and j. dilla. you can hear the spirit of the most adventurous micro house pioneers in the quirky funk of light hearted, while Óreitha revels in the transcendental qualities of a sustained groove without even a whisper of monotony. even with these unusual qualities the music is resolutely built for the dancefloor, and that mcguire manages to be so creative and so focused in the same beat is reason enough to keep tabs on this multifarious and unpredictable operator.

here at nang towers we are really happy to have back slovenian talent sare havlicek, without any doubt one of our favourite producers, and to present you all his latest creation *movies for lovers*. sometimes we like to try something a bit different. often the process of creating an album can be a not-so-simple task: which tracks are the singles? which is the breather track? do we have ten songs? have we covered all the bases? the list goes on. sometimes the answer is to throw convention out the window and just try to harness a burst of energy and get it down on eighteen minutes-a-side of vinyl. we gave sare the following brief: lock yourself in a studio for four weeks and come up with a piece of cohesive work. abandon the formulas, do some experimenting and (most importantly) try some things you wouldnt normally do. *movies for lovers* is the result of that session and encapsulates the feeling of the journey sare embarked on to bring you this album.

mr.g presents a very special effort for the annual record store day. a heat packing 12 inch 180 gram heavy weight release that has some special messages carved in the run out. music for all should be the rsd 2015 house anthem. the b-side hothorpe is a hazy tool for adventurous club situations.

last year we released aaron ahrends first brief embrace ep, which received lots of great feedback. ada (pampa) took newborn and started to do a remix. at the same time she took some larvae as pets and watched their metamorphosis. at the end she released them as butterflies. the tune was highly recommended at here bbqs over the last summer. last year the forgotten birds (karaoke kalk) decided to stop touring as a band. their first and might be last remix at all was created spontaneously in a jam session. enough reason for to be very happy about their awesome gift.

finally the moment has arrived for us to release new original music on our own label! this monster release has a history that takes us back more than four years to a 48 hour studio session at our beloved marcy hotel in brooklyn, ny. the original collaborative effort came from a laundry list of familiar crew love players including soul clap s charlie and eli, wolf + lamb s gadi mizrahi, no regular play s greg paulus, the lovely deniz kurtel and even mr. fantastic himself, lee curtiss. after all was said and done the body and inspiration of the record was there but what was lacking was a strong vocal. enter robert owens, arguably one of the most prolific and sonically recognizable singers in house music period

elektra release of charlotte gainsbourgs third studio album titled irm. the title is derived from m.r.i, which reflects the medical procedure charlotte had to go through after suffering a head injury in a water skiing accident in 2007. the album is charlottes most personal to date, and is produced by acclaimed grammy nominated artist/multi-instrumentalist beck. what started as a brief recording session between charlotte gainsbourg and beck ended up to be the body of work that is irm. over the course of a year and a half of writing and recording together, becks role grew to encompass all aspects of the creative process. he worked seamlessly with charlotte co writing the lyrics and produced and mixed the recording. (this is the first time he has ever been so involved in another artists work.)

when your debut set on pete tongs essential mix starts with masters at work remixing saint etienne and ends with kraftwerk, the tunes in the middle better hold their own. that was the challenge mobilee head anja schneider set for herself on her recent addition to the legendary bbc radio program, and she delivered with the help of a debut from maya jane coles, a classics from underground resistance, and an airing of her own latest, jimmy, which, with its propelling conga loop and haunting organ climax, made for one of the most memorable moments of the two hour session.

a small studio visit in dresden expanded to a studio session and from a studio session they developed two tracks. mariano and daniel published one of it, a timeless, spherical one, on this everlasting treasuries 5 ep on vekton black. on the b-side of the record maki and lorenzo present their vekton black debut with a trippy, minimal and very creative track. call it modern house whatever ...

released in 1979 queen samantha’s “take a chance” has gone down in disco history as an all time classic. produced by former aphrodite’s child bassist harris halkitis and featuring elongated naked “dj friendly” drum breaks and uplifting vocals and synths the record was sure to be a hit in discotheques on it’s initial release. the record was a huge success and has been sampled, edited and re-appropriated countless times, it even captured the ears and minds of the nascent hip hop movement that was brewing in new yorks bronx neighbourhoods a few years after it’s release with afrika bambaataa including it on his game changing “death mix” session with jazzy jay in 1983. both sides of the 12&#8243,,,,,, are bona-fide disco gold, pairing queen samantha’s soaring vocals with the stripped back, percussion heavy back drop of halkitis and his band. “take a chance” still sounds as fresh, epic and driving today as it did in ‘79 and still finds favour with forward thinking disco dj’s who include it in sets now. this is only one of many underground disco classics that the mighty miami based tk disco label brought to the world, officially re-mastered, re-pressed and re-issued in conjunction with joe stone / tk disco
